Simon Fletcher

Simon Fletcher is a painter, landscape designer and author of ten books in three languages.

Trained in British art schools in the 1960's he has shown his work all over the world and regularly gives workshops and masterclasses in water colour and pastel in France, Spain and Morocco.

"The new permanent, vibrant colours now available to watercolourists have been at the centre of my work for some years and I began teaching with them in Germany some years ago. My work has been influenced mostly by landscape but also by the paintings of Turner and the German expressionists. I believe in traditional techniques as the best basis for making paintings: without these fundamentals - drawing and composition, colour theory and practice and a deep knowledge of painting techniques - the artist's chances of expressing what they want in paint are very limited. In my last book, 'The Painter's Studio Handbook', published by Bloomsbury in 2012, I have tried to illustrate and explain some of these principles in such a way that beginners or those with little time can get on with the business of painting. It is not an exhaustive book of techniques. My other books, in German and French are about my work in watercolour and pastel"
