Nathaniel R "Nat" Helms is an author and former news and feature reporter. During his career he has been a soldier, police officer, newspaper and TV writer and editor, and wire service reporter, combat correspondent and university professor.
His first book, "My Men Are My Heroes: The Brad Kasal Story", Meredith, 2007 and Naval Institute Press, reprint, 2012, has been in constant publication for eleven years. It is on the USMC Commandant's 2007 "Recommended Reading List" and is a designated "Marine Corps Classic" by the Marine Corps League. His second book "No Time For The Truth: The Haditha Incident and the Search For Justice", Helms/Faraj, (Arcade, 2016) is for sale on Amazon and wherever else good books are sold. In addition, Helms has published Numba One - Numba Ten: A Novel of the Vietnam War (Amazon, 2018) and coming February 3, 2018, Bob and Taco's Big Roundup, a science fiction novel, and Dogfishing, a murder mystery very loosely based on his years of being a police officer and sheriff's deputy on the Galveston Municipal Police department and the Galveston Sheriff's Office. During Helms' career he has written for radio, television and the internet in a variety of capacities, including editor of the late great US Army Col. David Hackworth's Defense Watch, as well as being a reporter for Military.com, Time/Life, World War II magazine, Soldier of Fortune, St Louis Globe Democrat, St Louis Post-Dispatch, AP, Defend Our Marines, Newsmax, and numerous other local, regional, and national newspapers and magazine. He served 8 years in the US Army in Vietnam, Germany and Japan. He is a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Crewmembers Association and a life member of Disabled American Veterans. During his Vietnam experience he served nine months on the DMZ as a target acquisition specialist in 1968, as a door gunner the 282nd Assault Helicopter Co, I Corps in 1969, and the 25th ID, Cu Chi and III Corps in 1970, where he joined the Cambodian invasion..
