Mark P. Holtzman

Dr. Mark P. Holtzman is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Accounting & Taxation at Seton Hall University. He holds a PhD from The University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University, and has worked in the Audit Department of the New York Office of Deloitte. In his academic work, Mark actively works to innovate in the classroom, creating engaging and effective learning experiences for his students. Mark loves to explore issues in earnings management – how and why corporate executives manipulate their numbers to make themselves look better. In line with these issues, he believes that basic principles of accounting and accountability are universal, applying to democracy, the environment, journalism, personal relationships, and numberless other areas. He has authored Managerial Accounting for Dummies, co-authored Analyzing and Interpreting Financial Statements, and runs two blogs: accountinator.com and freakingaccountant.com
