I was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1935. Consequently, I have always felt a tug of birthday patriotism and as a child I secretly hoped the flags might be flying for my benefit. Such fantasies streached toward realism as I became a journalist and newspaper reporter and later a magazine editor, giving me an opportunity to write about what's right with America. My generation saw dramatic change throuout the 30s, 40s and 50s, paralleing my coming of age over a 20 year span, which fueled the content of my first book: 20 YEARS TO LIFE...A Memoir.
