My intention is to inspire you to explore consciousness.
My experiment began when I decided to find out if I could have any experiences that came from outside the known contents of my consciousness. My method was to lie down on my back, close my eyes, and avoid any movement (except, of course, the autonomic responses such as breathing and heartbeat).
Does it sound easy? Standing there all nicely encased in your body you might think you really want to know all the secrets of the Universe, but when your perception of that body begins to melt away, and when something unknown begins to filter into your awareness via a body that seems to be yours but is not familiar, and every feeling you know that underpins your experience fades away.... well, suddenly daily life is a precious reality where you really want to stay. Initiating a physical movement seems the very best idea, but that will be the end of the experiment.
For me, although extremely challenging, this technique allows the constant feedback from my physical being to slowly fade into the background until I cease to receive its messages and I enter into an 'altered' state.
My books tell the story of what happened 'out there', or was it 'in here'? They do not explain or try to prove anything; they do not even contain many facts! They illustrate a way to extend individual experience as inspiration for a fulfilling life; a way that is open to anyone.
