Dr. Ali Abedi received his BSEE and MSEE degrees from Sharif University of Technology in 1996 and 1998, and his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Waterloo in 2004. Dr. Abedi is Vice Chancellor for Research at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee since 2025. He was Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maine, Orono from 2005-25. He held visiting appointments at the NASA (2016), NIST (2012/13), University of Maryland (2012) and Queen's University (2004). His research works include analytical performance evaluation of block codes, new methods for performance and convergence analysis of Turbo-codes, and applications of error correction codes in wireless sensor networks for structural monitoring, biomedical and space applications. He has published over 130 refereed journal and conference proceeding papers including several books and patents with over 47000 downloads and 2000 citations. Dr. Abedi is the 2026-27 President-Elect for IEEE Council on Radio Frequency Identification.
