Alexander Hamilton is an economist and statistician working in the field of international development. Having completed his DPhil (PhD) in Political Economy (Oxon, 2012), and worked for the World Bank, he is now an economic adviser for the UK Department for International Development based in Baghdad. He currently leads on DFID's economic reform programme in Iraq. Prior to this posting he was based in: (1) Kinshasa- where he was the lead adviser on an economic reform programme; (2) London- where he worked on measurement issues regarding the SDGs; and (3) Khartoum -where he provided technical assistance, developed surveys, and conducted research to strengthen the evidence base in the Sudan. Alexander believes strongly in the importance of positive political theory and evidence based policy-making for realizing long-term economic growth.
