Anthony J. Sciolino

Anthony J. Sciolino is a retired Monroe County (New York) Family Court judge, a former member of the Rochester City Council, a graduate of Columbia College and Cornell Law School. He is also an ordained Roman Catholic permanent deacon, with a master's degree in theology from St. Bernard's School of Theology and Ministry.

Judge Sciolino and his wife Gloria reside primarily in the Rochester NY suburb of Pittsford and secondarily, since September, 2016, in Louisville CO, outside of Boulder. In addition to having served twelve years in parish ministry at the Church of the Transfiguration in Pittsford and three years in jail ministry, between 2008 and 2011, he participated as an instructor in an interfaith adult study program entitled, "The Two Thousand Year Road to the Holocaust: An Interfaith Project of the Greater Rochester Community." They are the parents of daughter, Kate, and granddaughter, Caroline, who reside in Boulder.

His book has been awarded a 2013 Independent Publisher Book Award - A Silver Medal in World History. The April 7, 2014 edition of his book includes an Index and Suggested Book Club Study Guide Questions.

In October, 2013, Judge Sciolino's faculty (permission) to preach and teach was summarily revoked by the Most Reverend Robert J. Cunningham, the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Rochester at the time. The reason cited by Bishop Cunningham in his letter of revocation: "In an interview (regarding the book) published in Volume 42, Number 52 of 'City' (newspaper) for the week of September 4-10, 2013, remarks attributed to you seem to disparage the Petrine (papal) office and the magisterium of the Church).
