Marc Steinberg

Marc Steinberg researches digital platforms, the animation industry, and media in East Asia. He is is Professor of Film Studies at Concordia University, Montreal where he is director of The Platform Lab (www.theplatformlab.com). He is the author of Anime’s Media Mix: Franchising Toys and Characters in Japan (University of Minnesota Press, 2012) its Japanese expanded version Why is Japan a “Media Mixing Nation”? (Tokyo: Kadokawa, 2015), The Platform Economy: How Japan Transformed the Commercial Internet (University of Minnesota Press, 2019), and Media and Management (Meson and University of Minnesota Press, 2021). He is also the co-editor of Media Theory in Japan (Duke University Press, 2017) and of a special issue of Asiascape: Digital Asia on “Regional Platforms.”
