I believe that every human being wants and needs a place to work where they are appreciated. I believe organizations need to be efficient and effective in providing goods and services. I believe servant leaders create organizations that serve their employees, customers, investors and communities. I believe the Scanlon Plan is one of the best ways to create humane/effective organizations.
I am author/editor of three books with Larry Spears. Our most recent collaboration is Fortuitous Encounters: Wisdom Stories for Learning and Growth. This book is designed to help Servant Leaders, learn and grow by being open to serendipity, or "causeless miracles" in their lives.
We co-edited the collected writings of John Donnelly, titled The Human Treatment of Human Beings. John was CEO of the Donnelly Corporation, and was a pioneer in the creation of high involvement Scanlon organizations.
We also co-edited the definitive anthology of Scanlon thought and practice, Scanlon EPIC Leadership: Where the Best Ideas Come Together.
I have also written numerous chapters in books and articles on the Scanlon Plan, Gainsharing and Leadership.
I am also an Instructional Designer, having developed best selling courses on Lean Production, Innovation, Hoshin Kanri, Listening Skills, and the Myers-Brigg Type Indicator.
I pioneered the use of experiential team building methods for creating high involvement cultures.
I created the Scanlon Culture Inventory and continue to consult and do employee culture, and engagement surveys.
I have been an invitational speaker at the Academy of Management, the Japanese External Trade Organization, Dyad Development of South Africa, and the European Union.
