Steven D. Branting

The scion of Idaho pioneers, Steven Branting trained first as a historian at Lewis-Clark Normal and then as a specialist in the education of gifted children with Joseph Renzulli, Paul Plowman and Sally Patton, all of whom advocated using qualitatively different processes and products to stimulate his students' minds. During his teaching career spanning nearly 40 years, he created and managed unique, challenging and ground-breaking education projects in creative thinking and idea management, mathematics, engineering and historical field work.

Since his retirement in 2009, he has returned to his focus on historical topics. In 2011, the Idaho State Historical Society selected him for its highest honor, the Esto Perpetua Award, citing his leadership in "some of the most significant preservation and interpretation projects undertaken in Idaho."
