John C. Sparks

A native Ohioan, John Sparks is a retired USAF engineer and award-winning college teacher. His writing passions are poetry and various topics in introductory mathematics such as single-variable calculus, algebra of finance, and the Pythagorean Theorem . More recently, a book on Biblical prophecy has joined his growing list of titles. Married for 45 years, Sparks and his wife, Carolyn, have two grown sons and one grandson. Below is one of Spark's more recent poems, "Apex", written in 2013. "Apex" is in his ongoing anthology "One Small Thought, Poems from Ohio."

The most glorious sight ever witnessed by me

Was a silver ship rising straight over the sea,

Three aboard bound on great tongues of fire

To a faraway land without greed or ire...

And none other goal than just to stand

Where no human soul had ever been

Except...in wistful gaze.

Oh high summer days so long ago!

An apex brief so gone too soon...

When we stepped out beyond ourselves

With one small step upon the Moon...
