Ellen Scolnic has been an award-winning, syndicated writer for more than 20 years. Her features appear in local, national and on-line publications including Parents Magazine, American Woman, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Christian Science Monitor, Baltimore's Child, Kveller, the Forward and many more. Her articles are frequently reprinted by the Parenting Publications of America syndicate and published in family newspapers across the country. Ellen and her writing partner, Joyce Eisenberg, are known as The Word Mavens and they write for newspapers nationwide.
Along with Joyce, she is the co-author of the best-selling Dictionary of Jewish Words (Jewish Publication Society, 2006) a user-friendly, A to Z guide to more than 1,400 words related to Jewish holidays, foods, traditions, Israel and more. The dictionary has been hailed as “breezy, valuable resource."
Their second book, The Whole Spiel: Funny essays about digital nudniks, seder selfies and chicken soup memories, is a collection of some of their favorite essays about family, holidays and being a member of The Tribe in the 21st century. The Whole Spiel is illustrated with original cartoons by Terry La Ban.
Their most recent book, "Stuff Every Grandmother Should Know" was published by Quirk/Random House as part of their popular "Stuff You Should Know" gift book series.
