JC Farris grew up in Appalachia, where she obtained her degree in psychology before expanding her view of the world and finding her true love of working with animals and their families.
After nearly 20 years in animal care, including serving as an animal cruelty investigator and veterinary technician, she became known as The Pet Parent Professor. She now trains pet parents how to be active in their pet's care, be prepared for emergencies, and save money in the process.
Her second love is the study of ancient and modern religions and finding the commonalities rather than the differences. The first quarter of her life was spent teaching the fundamentalist doctrine of the Bible as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, and later pastor's wife.
She now focuses on helping others who have only found dogma and doctrine rather than joy and peace in their faith. Often very direct and raw in her approach, her prose and poetry bring one to a place of ultimate grace. She is a firm believer that social action and unconditional love is a natural result of true spiritual faith.
In addition to matters of faith, she also writes about living with agoraphobia and panic and issues of social justice, equality, and poverty.
After living in New Orleans and Southern California, she has returned to East Tennessee where she writes, teaches, and rescues.
