James Appel

James Appel, MD received his BA in Theology from Southern Adventist University in Tennessee and his Doctor of Medicine from Loma Linda University in California. After completing a Family Medicine Residency at the Ventura County Medical Center, James moved to Africa where he has been living and working since January 2004, mostly in the Republic of Chad and Liberia. As the only doctor in a small district hospital for seven years, he was forced to do everything from obstetrics to pediatrics to orthopedics to urology to general surgery. Living and working with Muslims opened his eyes to many of the myths and stereotypes the west has of Islam. In 2016 he studied Qur'anic Arabic at Zaytuna College in Berkeley, California and speaks a colloquial Arabic from Chad.
