Robert E. Davis

Robert Davis was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. Growing up, he developed a passion for the mountains, wilderness, and the West. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geography from the University of Utah in 1983 and accepted a commission in the Marine Corps, dedicating the next 25 years to a distinguished military career. He retired from the Marine Corps as a colonel in 2008 and subsequently worked as a regional chief instructor at the Marine Corps Command and Staff College. In 2017, he founded a geospatial analysis company, retiring in 2024. Robert holds advanced degrees including a Master of Military Studies from Marine Corps University, a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, and a Master of Science in Geographic Information System Technology from the University of Arizona. He also earned a graduate certificate in Remote Sensing and Earth Observation from Penn State University and is certified as a mapping scientist in Geographic Information Systems by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. An active contributor to the field, Robert has authored a number of articles, delivered talks on geospatial and mapping sciences, and volunteers with nonprofits as well as state-run boards and committees. Married, he resides in Tucson, Arizona.
