J.A.V. Simson

Jo Anne Valentine Simson, born and raised in the Midwest and educated in the Northeast, currently lives in the South. A wanderer at heart, she has traveled extensively and has lived abroad for five years in Europe and Asia--as both student and teacher.

She has published five books of non-fiction and two volumes of short fiction. Her concerns include the jagged interface between science and human culture--especially our failure to curb overpopulation and global violence.

After earning a PhD in Anatomy and Cell biology, she taught and practiced science for more than three decades and was author or coauthor of sixty scientific publications. She was one of several contemporary scientists featured in a Smithsonian exhibit, "Science in American Life" (1994 - 2011), National Museum of American History.
