Robert L. Rich, Jr. was raised on Holly Beach Farm in Annapolis Maryland. He attended The Key School and then graduated from The University of Delaware with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1981.
In 1976, Bob worked on a workboat (commercial fishing vessel) on the Chesapeake Bay where he first learned to harvest blue crabs and a few years later - eels. While working as a crewmember, Bob learned about the emerging Maryland Watermen Association and it's legendary leader - Captain Larry Simns. Not at all by coincidence, Bob and Larry met for the first time in 2008 at the Pasta Plus Restaurant in Rock Hall for breakfast and became instant friends.
One outcome of their friendship is a new book published by Schiffer in 2012 called the Best of Times on the Chesapeake Bay.
