I'm a reader first. Reading my first Harlequin Romance as a young mother in a new town (waaaay before the Internet), I found an escape that involved words, learning, hope beyond the Black Moment, and the promise of a happy ending. As a Journalist, I discovered my joy in storytelling, and one of my proudest moments came when I learned that a manuscript I wrote (and re-wrote a dozen times) was going to be published by Harlequin Superromance. Since that life-changing (and career-changing) call, I've never once stopped loving the genre of romance. I was fortunate to have stellar editors and the supportive community of published authors who helped me learn my craft and stay true to my inner voice. And my books found readers around the world. I was a past winner of Romantic Times Reviewer's Career Achievement "Series Storyteller of the Year" award and a six-time nominee for RT's Best Superromance of the Year award—a lovely prize that came home with me the same year I lost my first and best reader: my sister, Jan.

For me, the heart of every story is the characters, who become very much alive to me. They argue, nag, do exactly the opposite of what I planned for them to do, and always remain close to my heart. My characters are ordinary people, almost always facing extraordinary family circumstances. These stories are usually set in small towns, but even in a city, smaller neighborhoods exist, and it's that sense of community that helps every love story blossom with redemption. Romance holds hope at its center. It was hope that made me start writing, and hope that sustains me through every glimmer of "What if...?" with new characters pushing their stories into my head and onto my page.
