Arthur Webster

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1928 and moved, with his family to Los Angeles, California in 1939.

With a falsified birth certificate joined the U.S. Merchant Marine at age 15

in June 1944 and sailed until 1956.

The book, Down to the Sea is a true portrate of life onboard tankers and freighters from the prespective of a member of the crew.

manhood.
