Matt Carmichael

Matt Carmichael combines foresight with insights as an expert in demographics, consumer trends, urban issues and "future of" topics. He is the founding editor of What the Future, a monthly foresight magazine produced by Ipsos where he serves as SVP, Global Trends & Foresight. Previously he was editor of Livability and served in a number of key positions within Crain Communications including the Senior director of research and data at Crain’s Chicago Business and Director of data strategy at Advertising Age. At Ad Age, he founded and edited the AdAgeStat blog focusing on research and analysis of demographic and consumer trends.

He has been awarded top honors in journalism competitions for content, design and innovative uses of technology. His research has been cited by global media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, the Atlantic and the Guardian (U.K.). A prolific writer and photographer, his work has appeared in more than 100 media outlets globally.

In addition, he is a prolific speaker, presenting to business and consumer audiences globally, on the future, trends and their impacts on people, markets and society.
