James Sherrier was born in Elisabeth, New Jersey, and was one of four boys. He served as an infantryman in the Pacific during World War II. After returning home, he completed graduate work in both History and Psychology. The author then served as professor teaching both psychology and history in different colleges in the State University of New York. James co-edited a text book for use in a SUNY course dealing with the diversity of the American population.
