My mother taught me as a child of 5 to read. I was confined to bed. She believed that reading would occupy my time and energy. Years later, she said with a sigh, "He took to reading like a duck to water." Reading led quite naturally to writing. I have written stories, essays, poetry, book reviews; all have been published in newspapers, magazines, and journals. I have been a teacher, lived on a farm, shared my life with animals, 2 legged and 4 legged, with a particular fondess for dogs and stray cats. Strays of all kinds have been of enduring interest to me, adding insights, enrichments, joys and sorrows. I have lived most of my life in Indiana. Home, as most of us realize, is where the heart remains.
