Thomas M. Alexander

Thomas Alexander teaches philosophy at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, an institution known for its focus in American philosophy, including the resources of the John Dewey papers and the Center for Dewey Studies. He grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where his father, Hubert G Alexander, taught philosophy at UNM. His mother was a pianist and music teacher. After graduating from UNM, he did graduate work at Emory University in Atlanta, writing his dissertation under Dewey scholar James Gouinlock. He has taught at SIUC since 1985. He has two sons, Adam Hartley and Nathan Blake, and is married to Felicia Kruse Alexander, a noted Peirce scholar.
