The authors, Jennifer Bean and Lascelles Hussey are UK qualified Chartered Accountants and both hold MBA's. They founded a successful management consultancy in 1986 and have an excellent track record in working with organisations in all sectors over the years. Clients have included local and regional authorities, housing and health organisations, universities and educational establishments. They have also worked with many NGOs.

Their considerable skill, knowledge and expertise in all areas of finance and management has produced a unique ability in taking business principles and applying them to the public and non-profit sectors in an easy and practical way. Having delivered many consultancy projects and training courses to thousands of public sector managers they felt the need to share their knowledge with a wider public. This lead them to produce a series of management books targeted at this sector entitled "Essential Skills for the Public Sector". The books have been used by individuals and organisations to enhance their skills and abilities. They are particularly good for self development as they include exercises and activities.
