Joshua Kosowsky

Dr. Kosowsky is the Vice Chair and Clinical Director of Emergency Medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. A former Fulbright Scholar and graduate of Harvard College, Dr. Kosowsky graduated with Honors from Harvard Medical School in 1996 and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Cincinnati in 2000. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Dr. Kosowsky and his team at Brigham & Women’s have been nationally recognized for their pioneering work in redesigning the delivery of emergency medicine services. Dr. Kosowsky leads the only course of its kind on emergency department design, sponsored jointly by Harvard Medical School and the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Dr. Kosowsky directs the “patient-doctor” course for the HST division of Harvard Medical School. He is the author of dozens of journal articles and textbook chapters, and has given invited presentations to hospitals and medical schools around the world. He is also the co-author of a newly released and highly acclaimed book on patient advocacy: When Doctors Don’t Listen: How to Avoid Misdiagnoses and Unnecessary Tests.
