Sister Diane Carollo

Sister Diane Carollo began writing fiction in elementary school but gave it up to pursue other adventures when she spooked her teacher after writing a horror story for a class assignment. After that, Diane’s mother sat her down for a chat—something she did from time to time—and suggested that Diane might consider writing, “happy and nice stories.”

Now, forty years later, Sister Diane is once again writing stories—having found the perfect balance between “horror” and “happy and nice” in the form of the cozy mystery! A life-long avid fiction reader, and a fan of mystery novels, Sister Diane has written her debut mystery novel featuring an intrepid sleuth on a quest for justice—who also happens to be a nun. Devoted to Murder is the first book in the Sister Maggie Mystery Series.

Sister Diane Carollo, S.G.L., earned a master’s degree in Biblical Studies at Providence College in Rhode Island. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, she has served as a religious among the poor at St. Brigid Parish in New York City, St Malachy Parish in Brooklyn, New York, and in the Mission and Vocations Offices for the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey. For twelve years she served in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, Indiana, as director of the Office for Pro-Life Ministry and as the part-time religious education director at Holy Rosary Parish in Indianapolis. Since June 2012, she has assumed the role of director of religious education at St. Luke the Evangelist Parish in Indianapolis.

Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, and working among the poor as a religious sister in some of the most crime-ridden areas in New York, Sister Diane realized that there is often a very fine line between truth and fiction. The plots for the Sister Maggie Mystery Series are borne not only from her imagination but inspired in part from actual life experiences.

When she’s not writing or running religious education at St. Luke’s, Sister Diane is usually tucked into a good book while trying not to chuckle at Courtney the cat’s antics. Yes, there is an actual Courtney the cat, and the real one is just as mischievous as the fictional one who lives at the convent with Sister Maggie and the other sisters.
