Heather Arndt Anderson

Heather Arndt Anderson is an award-winning food writer and culinary historian. She is the author of Berries: A Global History (April 2018), Chillies: A Global History (Sept. 2016), Portland: A Food Biography (2014) and Breakfast: A History (2013). She is a contributing writer to Roads & Kingdoms, Kitchen Table Magazine, Taste, Fish & Game Quarterly, Render Feminist Food & Culture Quarterly, Extra Crispy, Remedy Quarterly, and Portland Monthly. Heather wrote the Pacific Northwest chapter of the four-volume Food Cultures of the World Encyclopedia, and her recipes have been featured in One Big Table. She is a frequent panelist on the IACP Award- and James Beard Award-winning podcast, The Four Top.

Before becoming a writer, Heather worked as a plant ecologist and wetland specialist, keeping her traveling around the western United States for ten years.

Heather lives in an 1892 farm house in her hometown of Portland, Oregon, with her husband and son, cats and chickens.
