Joany Kane

Joany Kane is a Massachusetts-based writer, storyteller, and creator of the Wicked Merry universe, a world of pirate swoon where Cape Cod meets Margaritaville, witches fall for pirates, and love always wins.

Her passion for storytelling was sparked by three great loves: Henry Beston's "The Outermost House," the music of Jimmy Buffett, and the true tragic romance of pirate Black Sam Bellamy and Goody Hallett. Cape Cod, her second home since infancy, runs through everything she writes.

Joany's Hollywood journey began in 1993 with her first screenplay, which earned a read from Bette Midler's production company and the screenplay feedback to "lighten up on the Jimmy Buffett." (Spoiler alert, she never did.) Joany went on to write her first produced film, the Emmy-nominated "The Christmas Card," widely credited as one of the sparks that ignited today's holiday romance movie craze.

Her anthology series "Aargh is for Romance" is a love letter to swashbuckling adventure and swoony romance, and the foundation of an ever-expanding world that includes picture books, movies, merchandise, games and more. True to her "Newman's Own" philosophy, a significant portion of all proceeds supports nonprofits and causes close to her heart.
