V.M. Gopaul

I was born, and grew up, in Mauritius - a small tropical island in the Indian Ocean. In high school my favourite subjects were mathematics and physics, which I excelled at. While I pursued an interest in English Literature, I had to weave this course into my already full timetable. Even if my test scores only managed a passing grade, the influence of Shakespeare, Thomas Hardy, and Woodworth inspired in me a growing fascination of characters and plot development. I decided to one day write my own novel.

In 1969 I gained a Commonwealth scholarship to study engineering in Pakistan. During my adolescence my family struggled financially and this scholarship was my only ticket to leave Mauritius and discover the world.

In 1971 my adventures brought me to Canada where I pursued a career in electronics and later in software. I set aside my desire to write a novel, but I never forgot it.

In 1979, after obtaining a degree in computer science from York University, Toronto, I pursued a career in Information Technology at a time when it was beginning to flourish. Yet, my desire to become a writer continued to build tension within me. However, pursuing both writing and computer technology would have been like riding two horses at once. It seemed a risky proposition. I worked as a consultant at multiple international companies including IBM, Xerox, Merrill Lynch, and Royal Bank of Canada. During this time I wrote seven books for IT professionals and then two books on spirituality.

In 1981 I jumped into the rental business with both feet. Beginning with one income property subdivided for several rental spaces. I learned hard and fast how my innate trust and genuine shyness can work against me in such a position.

In 2008, after 40 long years, I began a new career as a fiction writer. Eager to begin this lifelong dream, I opted for a writing coach rather than wade through three more years of University to obtain a BA in Creative Writing. After finishing my book "Tainted Justice", besides learning writing skills, I had discovered a new passion. Now, I love to create dynamic plots and characters while building tension and drama. This art takes me into a magical world of creativity.

I published "Tainted Justice" in January of 2012 and I anticipate writing three more thrillers. Currently I am 1/3rd of the way into "Justice Denied," the next title in my Justice Series. I have also written a spiritual non-fiction book on my blog "Devotion, Deeper Learning and Deeds: The Spirit of Faith" at http://3-d-project.blogspot.com, for which I am working toward the print publication.
