Charles Moore Hackley, III was born and raised in Provo, Utah. He graduated from Utah State University in Land Management. His career has taken him to many locations in the western United States where he has been a consultant to governments, corporations and private land holders.
On his 2 1/2 year mission for the LDS Church, he lived and worked in Navajo, Hopi and Apache communities and learned many details and secrets about their cultures.

He has been effective in helping promote and ‘keep in remembrance’ the history of the Mormon Battalion, as well as other pioneer colonizing stories. His book, “The Quest for Sleeping Heroes” is a short history about finding, then properly marking five important grave sites of members of Company B, Mormon Battalion, near San Diego, California. The historical novel, “Buckshot Higgins, his Life and Treasures” gives detail and intrigue from many true to life stories and incidents garnered during his mission.
