Sandra Johnson

Dr Sandra Johnson is a developmental paediatrician working in Sydney Australia. She was born in Cape Town and completed her medical school training at the University of Cape Town and the Groote Schuur Hospital. She worked and trained at various international teaching hospitals: namely Toronto, Boston, London and Sydney. Prior to this, she worked in General Paediatrics, Adult Medicine and in various general practice locums. Apart from running her private practice "Child Development Paediatrics" she was a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Sydney Medical School. Currently she is an Academic in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University.

Sandra is passionate about her work. She loves writing, reading, music and outdoor activities. She achieved her goal to write a concise clinical handbook in Child Development for paediatric trainees and doctors after incorporating the support of several expert contributors, in July 2012, when the book for doctors was published by Elsevier Australia titled: "A clinical handbook on Child Development Paediatrics".

Sandra has also studied Legal Medicine and she does medicolegal assessments for legal teams through her private practice. She shares aspects of her legal training with doctors and trainees in the clinical handbook mentioned above.

Her second book "Your child's development" is written for parents, carers, teachers and those who work with children with the aim of enhancing the development of children by nurturing their self-esteem and relationships with others. This practical book is brief and easy to read in order to provide busy parents and practitioners with a ready reference on important aspects of nurturing the development of happy and confident children.

Sandra's philosophy regarding child development is that all children deserve our love, guidance and respect. We have an enormous opportunity to influence the future of our society by raising happy, sensitive and responsible individuals.

Sandra's current research is in the field of AI ethics and regulation in healthcare. She has published articles on this subject.
