Quentin Wheeler

Dr. Quentin Wheeler — scientist, professor, author, lecturer, columnist, museum curator, college dean and president — has held senior positions in Cornell University, Arizona State University, State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, the Natural History Museum (London), and the National Science Foundation.

His weekly podcast, "The Species Hall of Fame," may be heard on most podcast platforms. The podcast, and accompanying newsletter, are hosted at https://qwheeler.substack.com. You may learn more about him at his website: quentinwheeler.godaddysites.com.

Quentin has published more than 170 scientific articles and named more than 100 species new to science. For several years he wrote a column, "New to Nature," for The Guardian newspaper in London, and he created the widely acclaimed Top 10 New Species list.

In his latest book, Species, Science and Society, Dr. Wheeler confronts mass extinction and the surprisingly far-reaching implications of the continued neglect of systematic biology — the science that discovers, describes and classifies kinds of plants, animals and microbes. Written in narrative style with passion, authority and humor, the book is accessible to professionals, students, and general readers with interests in science, evolution, the environment, conservation, biomimicry and related subjects. "Species, Science and Society" will be available July, 2023, and may be pre-ordered now. You can learn more at the book's website: s3.godaddysites.com.

Quentin's previous books include Fungus-Insect Relationships: Perspectives in Ecology and Evolution (Columbia Univ. Press); Extinction and Phylogeny (Columbia Univ. Press); Species Concepts and Phylogenetic Theory: A Debate (Columbia Univ. Press); The New Taxonomy (CRC Press); Letters to Linnaeus (Linnean Society of London); What on Earth? (Penguin); and the Future of Phylogenetic Systematics (Cambridge Univ. Press).
