Michael Walsh

Michael Walsh is an award-winning historical fiction author, maritime expert, and former Canadian naval officer. Born on Canada's east coast, he spent eighteen years in military service, training as an Air Force pilot before transferring to the Navy, where he served as a navigator and ship’s captain. He later continued his maritime leadership ashore as Commander of the Vancouver Power and Sail Squadron.

Following his military commission, Michael channelled his precision and love for descriptive language into successful careers as a wine educator and columnist and a professional numismatist and auctioneer. He served as President of the Canadian Association of Numismatic Dealers and as President of the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association.

He has published four non-fiction books on boating and seafaring. As a fiction writer, he has earned multiple accolades for his deep historical research, including an Ambys Award and high honours in the Open Novella Contest.

An avid mariner who has spent over half his life owning boats and living aboard, Michael’s nautical adventures include ten ocean crossings, exploring the Chilean Canals, sailing Cape Horn, and weathering two hurricanes at sea. Today, he lives a gentler maritime life aboard Zonder Zorg, a century-old Dutch skūtsje, quietly writing his novels while exploring the historic inland waterways of Europe.
