Richard A. Mann

Born and raised in West Virginia, Richard has hunted big game from the Montana mountains to the green hills of Africa. He is a veteran, spent 13 years as a police officer and special agent, and during his military and law enforcement careers he worked as a firearms instructor. Richard made the West Virginia Governor’s Twenty in 1995 and won the West Virginia National Guard State Pistol Match in 1999.

Richard has contributed to most every American hunting and shooting periodical to include Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, American Hunter, American Rifleman, America’s 1st Freedom, Shooting Illustrated, Shooting Times, Guns & Ammo, Game & Fish, Fur Fish & Game, and Gun Digest. He was also the editor of the 13th Edition of Cartridges of the World. Richard operates the EmptyCases Substack which is a written and video journal chronicling his shooting experiments and hunting adventures. In 2019 he was awarded the Bill McRae Lifetime Achievement Award for his writing.

Richard is currently the shooting editor for Field & Stream and lives on Shadowland—his private shooting range in the West Virginia hills.
