Mark Clavier

Mark is from Greenville, South Carolina but grew up mainly in Florida and Virginia. He has an A.B. in History from The College of William & Mary, an M.T.S from Duke Divinity School, and a PhD from the University of Durham. His dissertation explored the role of delight in the theology of Augustine of Hippo.

Mark has spent most of his ministry serving in parishes, beginning in Maryland and then North Carolina, and later in four post-industrial pit villages in County Durham and in the idyllic countryside of north Oxfordshire. After serving as Residentiary Canon of Brecon Cathedral in Wales, he became Canon Theologian for the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon and Vicar of St Mary’s Brecon in 2022.

Mark has also lectured in theology as an associate tutor at Cranmer Hall, Durham, and then as the Dean of Residential Training and Acting Principal at St Michael's College, where he also lectured at Cardiff University. Afterwards, he spent two years as Vice-Principal of St Stephen's House, Oxford.

He regularly gives public talks and leads study days and retreats in both the UK and USA. He is also a contributor to BBC Radio Wales programmes ‘Prayer for the Day’ and ‘Weekend Word’. He spends much of his free time walking in the beautiful Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) with Sarah, his wife, and their Spaniels, Cuthbert, Humphrey, and Dexter.
