Janja Vidmar

Janja Vidmar is a member of the Slovene Writers’ Association and she was the president of the association’s Children’s and Youth Literature Section. Janja Vidmar, an author winning awards at home and abroad, offers, through her problem-oriented work, an individual experience of the ethical to a young reader. In Maribor, low writers' fees, a teenage daughter and obese tomcats provide her with excellent working and creative conditions. If a nearby hill with vineyards on it does not crash on her head any time soon, she'll remain for quite a while yet a thorn in the side of various apologists of the catechism adapted for everyday use. Janja Vidmar wrote over 50 books, many screenplays, drama texts and radio plays and has received many national and international awards for her works: The Večernica Award 1998, The Desetnica Award 2006 and The Večernica Award 2008, The Medaglia d'oro Award and The Golden Accolade at the international literary competition Parole senza Frontiere in Trento, Italy 1999 and 2003. Her book, My Nina, was selected by the IBBY Documentation Centre for Young People with Disabilities, Sandvika, Norway, within the project “Important Books for Young People with Special Needs” and her awardwinnig book entitled Pink was included in White Raven Internationale Jugend Bibliothek. She also received The IBBY Honour List 2010 for her book ANGIE at the IBBY INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS which takes places in Compostella 2010. She is also nominated for ALMA 2013 and ALMA 2014. Her works are translated into German, Croat, Serb and Italian language. On the basis of her screenplays two TV series and two motion pictures have also been taken. She also wrote screenplays for two short films for EBU.
