Richard Schwein

Richard D. Schwein Sr., is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio and a graduate of the University of Cincinnati. He spent forty years in the FBI from March 1957 until December 1995, serving in many capacities. The author worked as an FBI clerical employee while attending college. Appointed a Special Agent in 1967 he was assigned after training school to the Birmingham, Alabama field office. While there he was assigned with a host of other agents to the investigation of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Transferred to Philadelphia he spent the next seven years on the bank robbery-violent crimes squad. He then spent two years as supervisor of the property crimes squad. TransferredI to FBI Hq he served in supervisory positions until assigned to the Cleveland Division as Assistant Special Agent in charge. He was promoted to Inspector and then to Special Agent in Charge serving seven years in El Paso, Texas and his last two years in San Juan Puerto Rico. In 1991 President George H. W. Bush awarded the author the rank of meritorious executive in the FBI Senior Executive Service. He was awarded the FBI Medal of Valor for action against an armed and dangerous fugitive near Warren, Ohio. Among special assignments he served on the command staff during the LA Riots and at Waco.

Retiring in El Paso, Texas he became an active member of the El Paso, writers league and has won numerous awards in the leagues' yearly judged contest. In writing the Ben Douglas FBI thriller series the author draws on his own experiences and knowledge of the bureau. Mr. Schwein is married with two children and four grand children.
