Brian K. Lowe

Even in junior high school, Brian K. Lowe was attracted to the odd, the unusual. In study hall, his favorite book was about mythological monsters. In English, he wasn't satisfied with using the characters from the grammar books for his exercises; he had to use Tarzan and Jane. Apparently his teacher was amused; at least, she never complained. In tenth grade he wrote a "novel" featuring his best friends and himself as space cadets. (No comments from the peanut gallery.) It earned him 100 extra credit points, the first time he got "paid" for a story. Not surprisingly, Brian grew up to be a fan of 1950s sci-fi movies and, of course, Godzilla. (Although a grown-up, he refuses to be categorized as an adult.)

He also came to be a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA), with over 50 publications to his credit, including 12 novels, among them his Stolen Future trilogy and two series featuring 1930s pulp heroes: The Grey Phantom, and Nemesis. He has also written sci-fi comedy/mystery The Adventures of Soames & Webster; the comic duology Alien House/Wasted Space; and the paranormal mystery How to Murder a Corpse.

In 2008, he attended the Taos Toolbox advanced writing workshop offered by Walter Jon Williams, featuring Kelly Link as his co-instructor and Stephen R. Donaldson as guest lecturer. It was there that he learned about the Codex Writers Group, an invaluable source of news, advice, and support recommended to all newly-minted SF authors.

Currently he serves as the Chair of SFWA's Grievance Committee.
