C. D. Michel

C.D. "Chuck" Michel is a leading authority on Second Amendment law and firearm regulations. As the Senior Partner at Michel & Associates, P.C., he has spent over three decades defending the rights of gun owners and challenging unconstitutional firearm laws and regulations. He has authored multiple publications on California gun laws, served as an Adjunct Law Professor at Chapman University, and continues to be a key legal strategist in the fight for Second Amendment rights.

Mr. Michel and his legal team have secured major victories in high-profile cases, including striking down San Francisco’s Proposition H (a handgun ban), blocking Assembly Bill 962 (ammunition purchase registration), and successfully litigating Duncan v. Bonta, which is still pending in the courts and challenges California’s standard capacity magazine ban. His firm has also played a critical role in shaping national Second Amendment jurisprudence, filing key legal briefs in landmark U.S. Supreme Court cases such as Heller v. District of Columbia (2008), McDonald v. Chicago (2010), New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. City of New York (2020), and New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen (2022).

Before founding his firm, Mr. Michel served as a criminal prosecutor for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and as an advocate with the Los Angeles Federal Public Defender’s Office. He was also an associate at the prestigious international law firm O’Melveny & Myers and served as Staff Counsel to the Christopher Commission, which investigated the LAPD following the Rodney King incident.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Michel is the volunteer President and General Counsel of the California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA) and the Second Amendment Law Center (2ALC), where he continues to lead the fight against restrictive gun laws and advocate for constitutional rights.
