William B. Crawford is a former writer, reporter and legal affairs columnist for the Chicago Tribune. He began a twenty-three year career at the newspaper as an investigative reporter, winning a Pulitzer for his role in exposing fraud and patient abuse at two for-profit Chicago hospitals. Subsequently, he covered the federal courts while co-authoring a weekly column that tracked members of the Windy City's legal community. During his last eight years at the paper, he worked in the Business Section, reporting on the world's futures markets. A graduate of the University of Chicago with a degree in ancient history, Mr. Crawford left the paper in 1995 to become vice president of global communications for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Currently he is co-founder of a niche public relations and crisis management firm.
