Patrick E. Taylor

Patrick Ellsworth Taylor MD is the author of the historical Novel, "Wings of Love and War," based on the real life of a young man growing up to fight in B-17 bombers over Germany. This was his first book, published in May, 2013. His second novel, "The Martian Pendant," a science-fiction thriller about the adventures of a female Indiana Jones, has been published on Kindle select, and was released in print in 2014. Just published in May of 2015 is "The Shaman and the Savant," an adventure-thriller about teenagers growing up in the Stone Age. His fourth work, also from 2015 is entitled "Making It Into Port." Outlining the history and character of that classic wine, the author details his methods for producing gold medal amateur Port-style wines. Included are interviews of professional winemakers furnishing the reader with further insights.

The author of a number of papers appearing in medical journals, he has just retired after over fifty years practicing Neurosurgery in San Francisco. He and his wife Eivor own and operate a vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley north of San Francisco, producing super-premium red wine grape varietals. Their harvests, always in great demand, have helped him become an award-winning amateur winemaker.

Born in Los Angeles, he grew up in the San Fernando Valley, involved in the culture of surfing, skiing and hot rods. While still in high school, he worked for a summer as a riveter, helping build B-17 bombers. After graduation, he served in the Army Air Force, his aims of becoming a fighter pilot ending with Japan's surrender.

Following that, he received his MD from the University of Chicago. Neurosurgical training in the UCLA program included a year at the National Hospital, Queen Square, in London. He served as a full-time instructor in his specialty at the University of Florida Medical School, before beginning practice in San Francisco.

He lives with his wife, a psychologist and editor, in Sausalito and Geyserville, California, where, in addition to writing and supervising the operations of the vineyard, he enjoys other pursuits, including photography, painting and amateur winemaking.
