Vivek K. Goyal

Vivek K Goyal was born in Waterloo, Iowa, to Indian immigrant parents, grew up in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and has lived most of the last two decades in Berkeley, California, and Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has made a variety of research contributions in signal processing, computational imaging, and information theory. His work on multiple description coding and his historical research into this topic were summarized in an article for which he received the 2002 IEEE Signal Processing Society Magazine Award. He taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 2004-2012, where his students won thesis awards in 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2013, and he co-authored work that won student best paper awards at IEEE Data Compression Conference in 2006 and 2011 and IEEE Sensor Array and Multichannel Signal Processing Workshop in 2012. His startup, 3dim, won the 2013 MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition Launch Contest.
