Charles S. Viar was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1952, and grew up in the suburban community of Kirkwood. He holds degrees from Webster University and the University of Missouri, and did specialized graduate work at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He spent most of his career in the shadowy world of national security policy.
Just Before Midnight: A Tale of Love, Romance, Treachery and Treason is his first novel, which vividly describes behind-the-scenes power politics in Washington through the eyes of a young female graduate. Much to Mr. Viar's surprise, it has proved as popular with older adults of both genders as it has with its intended audience.
The Mist and the Darkness is his second novel, a tongue-in-cheek tale of an improbable romance between a 17-year old adventurer by the name of Andre Marchand, and a 71-year old Vampire recycling her identity as a high school junior. This book, too, has appealed to readers of all ages and both genders.
