Kate Becker

Kate Becker is Vice President of Program Management of KaBOOM!. KaBOOM! is a national non profit that is dedicated to ensuring that all children get the active play they need so they have the childhood they deserve. Kate has been a member of the executive leadership team that oversees all aspects of the growth, strategy and leadership for KaBOOM! since 2002. The team of 40+ that she oversees is responsible for managing the public private partnerships formed by the likes of Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Foresters, Disney, and MetLife and implementing the signature community-build model that has built nearly 2400 playspace projects serving 6,000,000 children with 1,200,000 volunteers.

Kate's involvement with KaBOOM! is the culmination of a background working with children and youth and in promoting civic engagement and community development. Just prior to KaBOOM!, Kate began working at the Corporation for National and Community Service in 1994 soon after its inception as part of the start-up team that turned the legislation for the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) into a viable, operating program. Ms. Becker was the founding Director of the Capital Region Campus for NCCC.

Other previous work experiences include: serving as a Health Educator in Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa as a Peace Corps Volunteer, working as a counselor with emotionally disturbed children, and managing a restaurant. Kate has served on a number of boards and is currently Chair of the Board of Advisors to the AmeriCorps NCCC.

Kate was raised in Struthers, Ohio, earned her BA in Psychology from Youngstown State University and was awarded a graduate assistantship to attend the University of Northern Colorado. Kate lives in Washington, DC with her husband Darell Hammond.
