Dominica Malcolm primarily writes speculative fiction with pirates and/or mermaids. She likes real world settings with science-fiction and/or fantasy elements, which is what you can find in her novel, "Adrift", which takes place in the 17th and 21st centuries, following pirate Jaclyn Rousseau as she tries to navigate her place in the world.
She's also published anthologies through Solarwyrm Press that focus on diverse characters, exploring various races, sexualities, and more.
Though born in Western Australia, Dominica holds citizenship in both Australia and the USA. She is currently based in California, after having spent over five and a half years living in Malaysia with her husband and two children. Malaysia is where she spent the critical part of her 20s, learning who she is and what she wants out of life, and became a part of the stand-up comedy scene there. In California, her primary focus switched to improv theatre and acting.
Whenever possible, Dominica enjoys travelling, having been to over 30 countries around the world, which inspires some of her writing. She has a Bachelor of Science in Internet Computing, and a Graduate Diploma in Media Production. Checking out her web site (http://dominica.malcolm.id.au) will lead you to short films and music videos she's worked on, as well as sample stand-up comedy, writing, and artwork.
