Amy Ryan is an author, mother, stepmother, and attorney who lives near Washington, D.C.
Amy has had Type 1 diabetes for nearly 20 years. She wrote SHOT: Staying Alive with Diabetes to create a readable account of this very difficult disease, one that would be different from the numerous "how-to" books about diabetes. She wanted a book that could be shared with family, friends, and others, to raise awareness about what life is really like for those with T1D.
One Amazon reviewer who shared her copy of SHOT with friends, loved ones, and family, said they all, after reading the book, responded with a wide-eyed, "I never knew..." This response--precisely the one Amy hoped to achieve--has been echoed in many reviews.
In her legal practice, Amy works with pharmaceutical and medical device companies on licensing and other commercial transactions to bring new medical technologies into the market. She also provides pro bono legal services to the JDRF, which includes involvement with the Artificial Pancreas Project. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia (1988) and the Georgetown University Law Center (1999).
Amy enjoys speaking with book clubs and discussion groups about issues relating to the management of diabetes and other chronic diseases. She has spoken with people who have T1D, their families, women's groups, groups of chronic disease sufferers, and others who simply enjoy great non-fiction.
Amy is available for discussions in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, and select other cities, on occasion. She would love to talk to your group via Skype or, look her up in the near future on Togather. Amy can be contacted directly at:
