Fatemeh Shams

Fatemeh Shams (Persian: فاطمه شمس), is a contemporary Persian poet, translator and literary scholar living and teaching Persian literature and language in different universities including Oxford University,where she studies as a Clarendon Scholar, SOAS and Courtauld Institute, Somerset House in the United Kingdom. An award-winning poet and one of the leading figures of post-revolutionary female poets based at Oxford University, Wadham College, Shams is mostly known for her poems and writings on political and socio-literary issues in Iran.Her poems have been so far translated into English, Italian and Kurdish. Dick Davis, the prominent British poet and translator and Nabaz Goran, the well-known Kurdish journalist and poet have translated her works into English and Kurdish.

Known as one of the leading Iranian female poets, Shams was awarded as the best young Persian poet in 2012 by Jaleh Esfahani Poetry Foundation in London and Latifeh Yarshater Book Award in 2006,Shams has published her poem collections, 88 in 2013 and Writing in the Mist in 2015 and When The Broke Down the Door in 2016.

She is currently a professor of Persian literature at University of Pennsylvania.
