Laura Kina

Laura Kina is a visual artist and scholar whose research is focused on Asian American and mixed race identities and history. Kina is a Vincent de Paul professor of Art, Media, & Design and Director of the Critical Ethnic Studies MA program at DePaul University in Chicago. She is coeditor, along with Wei Ming Dariotis, of "War Baby/Love Child: Mixed Race Asian American Art" (University of Washington Press, 2013); coeditor, along with Jan Christian Bernabe, of "Queering Contemporary Asian American Art" (University of Washington Press, 2017); and reviews editor for the Asian Diasporic Visual Cultures an the Americas journal (Brill) and events editor for American Quarterly. Kina illustrated Lee A. Tonouchi's children's book "Okinawan Princess: Da Legend of Hajichi Tattoos" (Bess Press, 2019).

Laura Kina is a cofounder of the Critical Mixed Race Studies conference and association and cofounder of the Journal of Critical Mixed Race Studies. She has exhibited her artwork across the U.S. and internationally including at the Japanese American National Museum, Chicago Cultural Center, India Habitat Centre, Nehuru Art Centre, Okinawa Prefectural Art Museum, the Rose Art Museum, the Smithsonian Archives of American Art, the Spertus Museum, and the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience.
