Tony Harris was born in England during world war 2.
Before his birth his family were in an impoverished condition made worse by the death of his Father 6 months before Tony's birth.
His mother was left to cope with 3 young children, and Tony on the way, in poor housing and food rationing.
He received a basic education and left school ,two months after his fifteenth birthday, without qualifications.
Tony trained in engineering as a mechanical fitter and he remained so until redundancy in 1983.
Three years earlier he had decided to educate himself part time simply for the pleasure of learning. After redundancy he continued this education while running a small business in driver training. He graduated with a BA degree in 1986.
Sometime later he enrolled for a teaching degree. He graduated two years later with a B.ed degree and worked in education until his retirement.
Tony’s experience has shown him that while education for economic reasons is an essential part of modern economies, education for the pleasure of learning is a wonderful enrichment of life.
Tony’s hope is that his book “ A simple guide to Popular Physics” can set its readers on either path.
Tony lives in England with his wife and family.
